ABHA IYENGAR - A POET, WRITER, SCREENPLAY WRITER, ACTIVIST

Abha Iyengar is an internationally published freelance writer and poet. Her work has appeared in several anthologies, magazines and literary journals, both in print and online. She is a Kota Press Poetry Anthology contest winner. Her story, ‘The High Stool’ was nominated for the Story South Million Writers Award. She has won several literary contests. She is a member of The Poetry Society of India and ‘Riyaz’ Writer’s Group at The British Council, New Delhi. Abha is a social activist who is against all forms of aggression and injustice.

She has contributed to popular anthologies in the U.S.
'The Simple Touch of Fate', 'Knit Lit Too' and 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' are some of these.
Her poems/articles/essays have appeared in literary journals like Moon dance, Raven Chronicles, Gowanus Books, Tattoo Highway (twice contest winner), Tryst3, M.A.G., Kritya, river babble, Enlightened Practice, Poet Works Press, Writers against War, Door Knobs and Body Paint (contest winner) Citizen 32, Arabesques Review among others. She is a member of The Poetry Society of India, Writing in India, and 'Riyaz' Writer's Group at The British Council, New Delhi.

Abha has conducted creative writing workshops in New Delhi and Ahmedabad.

She has written several screenplays.

She is developing her new film with the award winning international film maker  Biju Viswanath.

As an activist-writer she has presented papers in Berlin on unplanned urbanization (1991) and represented India in Paris (2005), speaking on the impact of World Trade Organization's negotiations on small farmers in India.
